WOMEN IN THE BIBLE
WOMEN WITH FAITH
FOR SALVATION
AND EVANGELIZING

THE WOMAN
AT THE WELL

JOHN 4:
The Lord left Judea and went through Samaria. Jacob’s well was there, and Jesus, tired as he was from the journey, sat down by the well.

When a Samaritan woman came to draw water, Jesus said to her, “Go, call your husband and come back.”

“I have no husband,” she replied.

Jesus said to her, “You are right when you say you have no husband. The fact is, you have had five husbands, and the man you now have is not your husband.”

“Sir,” the woman said, “I can see that you are a prophet. I know that Messiah is coming. When he comes, he will explain everything to us.”

Then Jesus declared, “I who speak to you am he.”

Then, leaving her water jar, the woman went back to the town and said to the people, “Come, see a man who told me everything I ever did. Could this be the Christ?” They came out of the town and made their way toward him.

Many of the Samaritans from that town believed in him because of the woman’s testimony, “He told me everything I ever did.” So when the Samaritans came to him, they urged him to stay with them, and he stayed two days. And because of his words many more became believers.

They said to the woman, “We no longer believe just because of what you said; now we have heard for ourselves, and we know that this man really is the Savior of the world.”

LYDIA, Paul’s First
European Convert

ACTS 16:
We traveled to Philippi, and we stayed there several days.

On the Sabbath we went outside the city gate to the river, where we expected to find a place of prayer. We sat down and began to speak to the women who had gathered there. One of those listening was a woman from the city of Thyatira named Lydia, a dealer in purple cloth. She was a worshiper of God. The Lord opened her heart to respond to Paul’s message. When she and the members of her household were baptized, she invited us to her home. “If you consider me a believer in the Lord,” she said, “come and stay at my house.” And she persuaded us.

Samaritans were looked down upon by the Jews of the day. They would not even speak to them unless it was absolutely necessary.

The Samaritans were the descendants of the people that Babylonian King Nebuchadnezzar had transferred there after the fall of Jerusalem to occupy the abandoned homes. Moving entire populations was a common practice in those days, to pacify the populace.

They were not Jewish, but Gentiles, from other parts of the empire. They intermarried with the few Jews that were left in the region, but were considered a ‘mongrel’ race by the returning Jews.

They eventually adopted Jewish customs and practiced the religion to a degree, but remained at odds with the orthodox Pharisees and Sadducees of the ruling class.

That Jesus even spoke to the woman was a surprise to her................

Thyank you, Dan.
Many great paintings. In a way, the Samaritan woman became one of the first missionaries, happily going back to her village to spread all she had learned from Jesus. A great episode in The Chosen too.
#6 FRanceschini for the clarity, reminds me a lot of Bloch.

Good Morning Dan, and a Friday of appreciation to all.

Many fine choices of wonderful paintings today, and stunning glass as well.

Very thankful for your art ministry Dan.

Your narrative agrees with my understanding and provides an excellent backdrop to this fascinating story.

Of further interest is their eagerness in responding to Jesus’ gospel message without needing to see healing miracles, which are not mentioned.

Yes, The Chosen's writers--Jenkins/Swanson/Thompson--did a wonderful job with this two-day visit.

That series has given another view on so much. I especially like the snippets of the old Saints like Jacob digging the Well or Moses and the Bronze serpent.
Having just finished John MACs book , ‘TWELVE ORDINARY MEN’ Before getting the released Three seasons of the series has truly added to the value of THE CHOSEN.
Watched through season two and nothing has
Seemed contrary to scripture to me.
.
If anyone wants to critique movies-—
Let’s rip on ‘Jesus Christ SUPERSTAR!’

Cheers

thank you for more wonderful art

If muslim women could only get a glimpse of Christ’s message. If only they would understand the peace and the love that He has for them. If only they could be free to fellowship with the only True and Living God...

My mind wandered in that direction because of the love poured upon the woman at the well. She had not know love or joy until Jesus.

The Chosen

the ladies I Bible study with also watch The Chosen and we have yet to find it contradicting Scripture

the very cool thing is that a couple of them have spouses who have no interest in the Bible, yet, they are being drawn into The Chosen series - because it is so well done

The Holy Spirit has ways to reach people that are bewilderingly varied.

Have you ever heard how The Chosen got started?

I still get misty with the Series Opener
“I Call You By Name”...
.
I picked up season one DVD for a BUCK
about a month ago. Went through All the controversies and recommend it when discussing it.
It gives Dynamics of relationships that are not real apparent in Scripture.
.
I’m saving Season Three for a while.
Cheers!
